Custodial death: why oppose CBI probe, asks HC

Kochi: The High Court Thursday asked that why should the government oppose the CBI probe in the Puthur custodial death case. The court also observed that not arresting the police officers who are accused in the case is serious issue. The court made these observations while considering the petitions field by the state government and the former Palakkad SP Vijay Sakkare. The court asked the government to check whether suspension orders have been issued to the police officers who are accused in the case and also whether the police officers who are under suspension are accepting salaries and other benefits. The court also noted that if that is happening it is a serious issue. The disciplinary measures taken against the police officers should be reported before the court Friday, the HC told the government. Meanwhile, the court accepted the petition filed by Karthiyayani, mother of the murdered Sheela, against the CBI probe.
