Thiruvananthapuram: The state government will consider reducing the duty on diesel, finance minister Thomas Isaac said here Wednesday. But there would not be any reduction on tax on petrol, he said.
Maharashtra and Kerala currently tax diesel at 26 per cent and 24.69 per cent respectively.
The Delhi Government had recently reduced sales tax on diesel by Rs 2.50 a litre. The West Bengal government which announced a subsidy of Re.1 per litre on diesel used for public transport and exemption of sales tax on kerosene.
The subsidy will be deposited in the bank accounts of the taxi, bus and minibus operators every month.
