2G scam: No wrongdoing by Tata Teleservices found, CBI tells JPC

NEW DELHI: In its probe into the 2G spectrum scam, the CBI has found no evidence of wrongdoing by Tata Teleservices and has, in fact, noted that the company unfairly lost out to Swan Telecom in the lucrative Delhi circle. In its status report to the JPC looking into 2G and other telecom issues, the CBI has also said the deal between Tata Realty and Unitech for 517 acres of land in Gurgaon was a one-off transaction and did not violate licence norms. It said its Chennai Voltas property deal was still to be concluded. But Tata Teleservices, along with nine other companies, is under investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for possible offences under Foreign Exchange and Money Laundering laws, the agencys director Arun Mathur told the committee. The CBI has indicted former telecom minister A Raja for ignoring advice from various corners of the government for a revision of entry fees for new UAS licences and dual tech applicants and deliberately and dishonestly not considering auction or revision of entry fees.
