His call boosted morale when I was dropped: Kapil

NEW DELHI: In the past whenever the Pataudis got together at their south Delhi residence, there was warmth, togetherness and intimacy . But on Friday when the family assembled, it was to bid adieu to their beloved father, Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi. The mortal remains of Pataudi were kept in his drawing room, where he often received visitors and fans. On Friday, his fans and wellwishers thronged his home again, but this time to mourn and pay homage . The mood was sombre. Three weeks ago when he was admitted in hospital, nobody would have thought that Indias most stylish cricketer would be referred in the past tense. Pataudi may be dead, but his presence was felt in every corner of his Vasant Vihar house. According to a family member, Pataudi didnt know that his lung infection was so serious. We will always miss him. He was honest, straight forward and never wavered in his stand, Pataudis actor son Saif Ali Khan told TOI. Its going to be tough for us to live without him, he said with controlled emotion. Like Saif, the rest of the family is yet to come to terms with the tragedy . But they put up a brave face and received the steady stream of mourners. Not many from the cricket world, however, were present to pay homage to the legend. But Kapil Dev was there to pay his respects. Till Thursday afternoon, Kapil was in London, but the moment he landed in Delhi, he rushed to Pataudis residence.
