Sexual assault angle adds new twist to Roebucks death

NEW DELHI/CAPE TOWN: Noted cricket writer Peter Roebucks suicide in Cape Town on Saturday night may be linked to an indecent assault charge for which he was being questioned by local police, it has emerged. Even as police launched an inquest into the death and refused to divulge fresh details, South Africas New Age reported that the senior journalist may have been prompted to take his own life after a Facebook friend went to the police alleging Roebuck wanted to have sex with him against his will. The New Age quoted a source as saying, Roebuck jumped to his death when he was informed that a complaint of a sexual nature had been made against him by a friend whom he met on Facebook. Roebuck allegedly met the 26-year-old male a few days ago. The pair met later at the hotel, where they were allegedly meant to discuss a possible university sponsorship for the male Zimbabwean. (The) source said Roebuck allegedly tried to seduce the Facebook friend and have sex with him against his will.
