BCCI set to sever Modi's last link with cricket

NEW DELHI: This could be the end of the innings for suspended IPL czar Lalit Modi. Irrespective of what comes out of the disciplinary charges levelled against him for misappropriation of funds, the Indian cricket board has devised a plan to oust Modi from IPL, and also keep him away from all BCCI posts in the future. On paper, Modi’s link with cricket administration in India remains as he was appointed chief of IPL’s governing council (GC) in 2008 for a five-year term. The top bosses of the board have now planned to dissolve the incumbent GC and cut the council’s tenure to one year. This plan is likely to be ratified at the board’s AGM on September 29 with overwhelming majority. "When the GC was formed, Modi was appointed as its head for five years. We propose to reduce this term to one year. The board will take a final call when the AGM happens. It all depends what the working committee members decide. After all, we will need to amend the constitution. Besides, the approval of a majority of the members is a must," an insider close to the development told TOI on Tuesday.
