CM’s dream: To see Rahul become PM

HYDERABAD: New Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy wants to fulfil two last wishes of mentor Y S Rajasekhara Reddy — to ensure the Congress wins 41 Lok Sabha seats from the state in 2014 and make Rahul Gandhi prime minister. Hours after he was sworn in CM on Thursday, Kiran Reddy addressed a crowded press conference. ''I will focus on governance. By 2014, I want to strengthen the party and give government a new image,'' he said. Sounding resolute, he said, ''I will ensure every scheme YSR planned is implemented. I want to fulfil his unfinished task of winning 41 Lok Sabha seats and making Rahul PM.'' Kiran Reddy claimed YSR had made his wish known barely three days before his death in a chopper crash on September 2 last year. The 50-year-old former Speaker sounded confident as he fielded questions with clarity. Unlike his predecessor, K Rosaiah, the new CM had several party MLAs and MLCs with him. Sources said that he wants a major revamp both in the Cabinet and the bureaucracy. He would introduce systems so that the benefits of welfare schemes YSR had introduced reached those who they were meant for, Kiran Reddy said. ''I will work to make the state and Hyderabad the most preferred investment destinations.''
