MSD struggling but dismiss him at your own risk

NOTTINGHAM: In the summer of 2007, Mahendra Singh Dhoni was almost fortuitously installed as the captain of the Indian team; he may have been sounded off but, as he prepared for the Oval Test, he didnt show any sign of nervous energy or discernible joy then. Since then, slowly and coolly, he has become one of Indias most charismatic and successful personalities; more importantly, he rode on a string of lucky breaks to become the king with the Midas touch too. Everything he touched turned into gold: T20 World Championship, two IPLs, one Champions League and the World Cup itself. In between, he guided India to the pinnacle of Test cricket too; he was well and truly on top of the world. Four years later, when he has come back to England, he surely would not have known that the world around him would shatter so quickly; even he wouldnt miss the irony. Does it really all end where it starts? Is that the fate of all turnaround stories? Or is it just another mirage? For the first time since 2008, India have lost two straight Tests in a series; for the first time during his reign, Dhoni is on the verge of losing a series. More chillingly, India are just another Test away from losing the World No. 1 ranking too. Could everything go so wrong for the man hailed as a lucky captain?
