Dravid questions ICC over Sachins ODI formula

MUMBAI: After the International Cricket Council (ICC) shot down Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkars idea of split innings in ODIs on Wednesday, Rahul Dravid felt it would be interesting to find out on what grounds the proposal was rejected. Speaking on the sidelines of a promotional event, Dravid said the idea of split innings in ODIs had already been tested in Australia and it would be interesting how the cricketing fraternity responds to it in time. I think the split-innings formula was already trialed in Australia. It will be interesting to know the reasons why the ICC has turned it down. Sachin must have given it a thought before mooting the idea, Dravid said. ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat said on Wednesday that the Little Master had proposed in writing about dividing ODIs into four 25-over innings during the World Cup. But the Cricket Committee felt the 50-over format was in good health and didnt require any dramatic changes immediately. Dravid, who rarely lets his guard down, also opined about the Umpire Decision Review System ( UDRS) but not in as many words. The Wall had been a topic of raging debates over decisions involving technology in the just-concluded England series. He felt technology would always aide umpires in making correct decisions but they needed improvement. UDRS needs more improvement and time in developing the technology. It is an ongoing process, he said. Continuity is one of the basics behind the making of a successful team and Dravid felt the selectors should give the youngsters time. Even when we were young there were apprehensions about how we would perform. But we gradually got in and performed. The likes of Ajinkya Rahane and Parthiv Patel have been fairly successful in the limited opportunities they got in England and Dravid felt even they need time to get into the habit of playing in the big league.
