Metallica no-show fuels chaos

GURGAON: What was billed as the heavy metal gig of the season ended in fiasco when the organizers of the Metallica concert, scheduled to be held on Friday evening, cited technical difficulties to postpone the show at the eleventh hour amid unconfirmed reports that it was being cancelled. Soon after the announcement, made at the venue around 6.25pm, fans vandalized equipment and demanded a refund. TV reports claimed equipment worth $200,000 (almost Rs 1 crore) was damaged. Within two hours, the mob had wrecked a stage that took two months to set up. Many were reportedly injured in a stampede at the venue. The organizers, DNA Networks, said the show - being held as part of the Formula 1 build-up - will take place from 4pm on Saturday though workers were seen dismantling the stage late on Friday. While DNA Networks refused to comment on the reason behind the no-show, some fans said it was due to broken equipment. One of the front barricades was broken about 5pm. They tried to fix it for more than an hour. Then they announced that the show was being postponed, said Karthik Nanda, who was at the venue. Another report claimed the band was unhappy with the backstage arrangement.
