Good growth for IT sector projected in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 11: A vision document prepared by the Kerala Government for the IT sector has envisaged a direct investment of Rs.2,000 crores in next few years and generation of about two lakh jobs in the state. A major initiative would be in e-goverance and an amount of Rs.2000 crores would be set apart for the same in next few years, Chief Secretary Neela Gandhaaran said at a Confederation of Indian Industry function here Thursday. She said the government had set up an IT Infrastrucutre developemnt company and the Techno Park and Infopark would provide sufficient opportunities for companies to invest. More towns in the state would be choosen for IT development and at least 1000 more acres of land were to be added to the basic park facilities, she said. 'The policy vision sought to take IT to the villages, which was clear from the proposal to start 200 small IT parks in different parts of the state,' she added. Private sector alone was expected to commit investments between Rs.8000 to Rs.10,000 crores in next few years. This would boost the economic development of the state, she said. IT Secretary Ajay Kumar said government plans to set up an Information and Communication Technology Academy to tap the skills of college level students in IT sector.
