Illegal mining case: CBI arrests former Karnataka minister Janardhana Reddy

BELLARY: CBI arrested former Karnataka tourism minister and mining czar G Janardhana Reddy in connection with the illegal mining case on Monday, TV reports said. Reddy will be produced in a CBI court in Hyderabad in the afternoon. Srinivasa Reddy, the managing director of Obulapuram Mining Corporation, which is owned by the former minister, has also been arrested. The CBI team from Hyderabad in the wee hour of Monday raided Reddys house and escorted him to an undisclosed location for questioning, reports said. Srinivasa Reddy was also questioned. The probe agency action comes a day after Reddys associate and former Karnataka minister B Sreeramulu resigned from his assembly membership, protesting against the BJPs denial to give him ministerial berth and also keeping Bellary Reddy brothers out of the ministry. The ruling BJP in Karnataka seemed to be on the verge of facing fresh trouble as Sreeramulu resigned his assembly membership. Rumours also milled that Sreeramulu was contemplating to float a regional party, but sources close to him refuse to confirm it. Apart from Sreeramulu, Janardhana and his brother G Karunakara Reddy were upset after the BJP high command did not favour their inclusion in the ministry led by chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda, in the wake of a Lokayukta report indicting them in illegal mining.
