CPM sees Cong-BJP conspiracy against LDF in civic polls

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Asserting that the LDF would have no overt or covert truck with communal outfits, CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday dubbed the propaganda that the CPM had adjustments with the BJP in some parts of the state in the civic polls was a "conspiracy" hatched by the Congress and the BJP. The CPM leader was reacting to statement by senior BJP leader O Rajagopal yesterday that his party was ready to back the CPM in some of the seats in Thrissur corporation as in a civic polls the issue of development took primacy over politics. "This propaganda is nothing but a well-hatched conspiracy of Congress and BJP to cover up their widespread adjustments. I make it unambiguously clear neither the CPM nor the LDF as a whole would vote for communal parties or seek their support", Vijayan told a meet-the-press programme at the Press Club here. He said the party's stand was that religion's interference in politics was communalism and that was why it opposed to pastoral letters with open political calls issued by the Catholic church in Kerala recently. "The CPM does not say that the entire church was against the party. But there are sections of priests who are opposed to the CPM and the LDF. But when they talk politics it is natural to assume a religious dimension. This is what we are opposed," he said. Admitting that it was some "weaknesses" of the CPM that contributed to the unimpressive performance of the LDF in the last Lok Sabha polls, Vijayan said such shortcomings had been solved and the front was poised for an impressive victory in the civic polls.
