Kishanji killing: Top Maoist leaders were unhappy with Kishanji

NEW DELHI: Kishanjis death in an encounter in West Bengal is a rude jolt to the Maoists, but the Politburo Standing Committee, the supreme body of the Red ultras, is intact. The three-members of the standing committee - party general secretary Ganapathy, central military commission chief Na-mbala Keshav Rao and Prashanta Bose alias Kishanda - constitute the all-powerful troika. While Ganapathy and Rao are former Peoples War members, Kishanda was part of the Maoist Communist Centre (MCC). After Kishanjis death, Kishanda is likely to take charge of the Maoist Eastern Regional Bureau, comprising Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Assam and districts of UP, Orissa and Chhattisgarh bordering these states. One of the main tasks at hand for the Maoists is a fresh look at strategy and tactics after the failure of Kishanjis Lalgarh experiment. While the security forces are bracing for a possible retaliation against Kishanjis killing, it turns out that CPI (Maoist) leadership was unhappy with the slain extremist for a number of reasons; including for supporting Trinamool Congress during the West Bengal polls. At a central committee (CC) meeting, attended by the three standing committee members in Jharkhands Saranda forest in February, Kishanji faced sharp criticism for the Lalgarh experiment in Bengal. He drew flak for talking too much to the media.
