IIT-JEE results to be out today, online counselling for all

MUMBAI: Results for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) will be declared on Wednesday morning for close to 5 lakh aspirants who want to study engineering at either of the 16 Indian Institutes of Technology. The results will be available on the JEE website, pasted on notice boards of all the IITs; candidates can also call up the JEE cells helpline numbers set up at every IIT. "The results will be out at 9 in the morning and counselling is online for all candidates this year. There will be two rounds of admission," said IIT-Kanpur director Sanjay Dhande. Two years ago, this paper had campaigned for a second round of admission as several seats at the IITs were going abegging. Currently, the total intake at all the IITs stands at a little over 9,600. There is respite for physically challenged students who, till last year had to travel to Delhi for a medical check-up. This year, there are medical boards set up in IIT-Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Guwahati and IIT-Madras. The stakes in Wednesday's results are higher for close to 95,925 students, for whom this was the last chance to get into the premier IIT. The remaining 3.89 lakh sat for the test for the first time. This year, the IITs put up the solutions to the paper and acknowledged errors adding up to 36 marks. While the institutes have promised to grant full marks to all the students who attempted the questions, there were several candidates who left these questions unanswered. But there is relief for those who thought the tech schools may hike fees. Tuition fees remain the same with IIT-Kanpur's at Rs 34,692 per semester and IIT-Delhi's at Rs 27,035.
