Jayasuriya farewell proves an anti-climax

LONDON: Sri Lankan cricket legend Sanath Jayasuriyas controversial farewell to his international career ended in disappointing fashion on Tuesday as he made just two runs in the first ODI against England. Scorecard The former captain and now a Sri Lankan lawmaker - who will be 42 on Thursday - was controversially selected for the one-day leg of Sri Lankas tour of England following political pressure to ensure he received a fitting send-off from the international game. However, he said he would only play in last Saturdays Twenty20 and the first one-day international. Jayasuriya - a member of the 1996 World Cup winning side - took a wicket in Englands innings but any thoughts of a glorious innings to bring the curtain down on his career was swiftly terminated when he was caught by Eoin Morgan off Tim Bresnan. However, he was given a standing ovation as he left the pitch.
