Capital to host India IT Summit

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is uniquely positioned to take advantage of the second Information Technology wave. The State can leverage its huge manpower resources and social development to attract major investments in the IT sector, according to V.K. Mathews, convener, IT Panel, Confederation of Indian Industry, Kerala. He was addressing an interactive session on the Technopark campus here on Tuesday in connection with a road show for the India IT Summit 2009 to be held here on December 10 and 11. Mr. Mathews said the summit would market Kerala as an important IT destination. The event, he said, would facilitate networking of leading IT companies and IT infrastructure developers, bringing in investment. “It will also showcase the core competencies of Kerala and help create public support for the IT industry”. Change in roles Mr. Mathews said the role of information technology was undergoing a change from that of supporting to transforming businesses. “IT is influencing and transforming the way people live, and this change will accelerate. India is set to evolve from a low cost IT destination to high value business facilitator. Kerala, on the strength of its educated population, should be able to play a major role in this transformation. For this, it will have to create positive investor perception,” he said. IT Secretary Ajay Kumar said the next decade could be Kerala’s in the IT industry. “The summit will provide Kerala with a great opportunity to highlight our initiatives, capabilities and talent as a State before an audience comprising major decision makers in the Indian and global IT industry,” he said.
