Illegal mining: Lokayukta report indicts Yeddyurappa, 4 BJP ministers

BANGALORE: The second report on illegal mining in Karnataka by Lokayukta Justice Santosh N Hegde, expected to be made public in a day or two, has indicted Karnataka chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, four cabinet ministers — G Janardhana Reddy, G Karunakara Reddy, B Sriramulu and V Somanna — former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy and Congress MP Anil Lad. Excerpts of the report available with Times Now say the scam involves Rs 1,827 crore over 14 months (April 2009-May 2010). When TOI contacted Justice Hegde, he was upset over the leak of the report and declined to react. Yeddyurappa, currently holidaying in Mauritius, has been charged directly on two counts — land sale of companies owned by his son B Y Raghavendra and son-in-law Sohan Kumar to a mining company by over 20 times the market value. The payment of Rs 10 crore by the mining company was made to his Prerana Education Society in Shimoga. The other charge against Yeddyurappa, who also holds the mining portfolio, is continuing with the Reddy brothers despite the charges and evidence available against them
