Panampilly award for Madhavan Nair

Thiruvananthapuram: G Madhavan Nair, former Indian Space Research Organisation Chairman, has been awarded the Panampilly Prathibha Award for 2009 for his valuable contributions to science and technology. The award, instituted by Samskara Sahiti, the art and cultural wing of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee, in memory of Panampilly Govinda Menon, carries a statuette and a cash prize of Rs.50,000. Mr. Madhavan Nair was chosen for the award by a selection committee comprising C.G. Ramachandran Nair, former head of the Science, Technology and Environment Committee (Chairman), George Onakkur, Surya Krishnamoothy, M.R. Thamban and Palode Ravi, chairman of Samskara Sahiti. In the previous years, noted poet Sugathakumari and actor Mohanlal had won the award. Addressing a press conference here, KPCC spokesperson M.M. Hassan, accompanied by the selection committee members, said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will present the award on January 3.
