'US offers more opportunities for nurses'

Sharjah: Dr Vinod K Shah, president of American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin, foresee better opportunities for Indian nurses, particularly Malayalis, in the USA. Participating in the continuous medical education programme of Association of Kerala medical graduates, Dr Shah said he had requested President Obama to improve opportunities for three year residency and hoped that the ongoing development of residency programmes would bring more chances for doctors. By 2014, 4 crore more people will be covered under the medical insurance schemes. This will enhance growth opportunities in the medical sector. Dr Shah urged Indian universities to upgrade medical education standards to suit American demand. “Training to face eligibility tests in US should also be imparted to students,” he said. Dr Shah stated that financial crisis has not touched the US health sector.
