Ind vs WI: Edwards scalps Laxman early on Day 4

NEW DELHI: Fidel Edwards struck in the second over of Day 4 when he had VVS Laxman caught by Marlon Samuels at gully in the third Test at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai on Friday. Scorecard Laxman fell on the first ball he faced on the day failing to add to his overnight score of 32. The days play started with Sachin Tendulkar and Laxman resuming the Indian first innings. On Day 3, chasing an imposing West Indies first-innings total of 590, the perfect symphony of Rahul Dravid and Tendulkar lit up the proceedings as India moved to 281/3 at stumps. Tendulkar, batting with assurance, was unbeaten on 67, setting up the tantalizing prospect of him getting to the coveted 100th hundred on home ground. VVS Laxman was batting on 32. The stage was set for the Tendulkar and Dravid show after Sehwag departed early and Gautam Gambhir fell after a well made half-century. In imperious form this year, Dravid came up with another flawless display (82, in the process crossing the 13,000-run mark. He celebrated the climb with a trademark cover drive and went on to achieve the distinction of scoring 1,000 runs in a calendar year. The timing was impeccable and there was no stopping Dravid as the classy cover drives, flicks, on-drives and square cuts simply flowed from his bat. He even brought a little footballing skill into play, kicking the ball away when it was moving towards the stumps after a defensive shot! The alert action deflected the ball inches away from the off stump when the batsman was on 52. Post-tea, Dravid shifted gears, flicking Edwards swiftly off his toes, leaning into the whip past mid-wicket and playing a pleasing extra-cover drive.
