Kerala hand chopping case accused gets bail

Kochi: A Kerala court on Saturday granted conditional bail to Anas, the 47th accused in the case relating to the chopping of the right hand of Thodupuzha Newman college lecturer T J Joseph. The Additional Sessions court, Ernakulam, V Shircy, granted bail to Anas on a bond of rs one lakh and two solvent sureties for the like amount. He has been asked to appear before the investigating officers every Saturday and Monday and surrender his passport within five days of his release. Anas was elected from the Vazhakulam panchayat during the recent civic polls, defeating both the Congress led UDF and CPI(m) led LDF canidates. He contested the polls as candidate of Socialist Democratic Party (SDPI), a political arm of the radical outfit Popular Front of India (PFI), whose activists had allegedly attacked Joseph. Joseph's hand had been hacked in July this year for preparing a question paper allegedly had some references to Porphet Mohammed.
